Why SMP Is The New Hair Loss Miracle
It is estimated that two-thirds of men and one-third of women will suffer from a form of hair loss at some point in their lives and it is something that can prove to be both embarrassing and traumatic. Fortunately, with an increasing number of procedures, the successful restoration of hair loss is quickly becoming the new norm, but with so many different treatments on the market, it can be quite daunting to know where to start. One of the best options is Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP).
What is SMP?
SMP is a non-surgical treatment that works by using micro needles to deposit natural pigments within the scalp, creating the illusion of shaved hair.
The results start with the appearance of tiny follicles on the scalp which, over time, will thicken and restore the hair to its fullest. It will also restore receded hairlines, thicken any remaining hair, and camouflage transplant scarring. In short, it will look completely natural and create a new hairline.
It is regarded as the most effective treatment of its kind, using only natural pigmentations, which are safely administered by a qualified practitioner.
The applications of SMP normally takes three, three hour sessions and must include at least a week of rest between each session. It is a comfortable process that uses three needles that safely inject the natural pigment into the skin’s second dermal layer.
What does SMP specialise in?
Crown Balding
This is one of the most common forms of hair loss and can cause a loss of self-confidence. SMP will refresh the crown and give it a completely natural look.
Partial or Complete Baldness
Even complete hair loss can be reserved with SMP as it allows the entire scalp to be pigmented.
Alopecia
Alopecia will differ from person to person and each client will be treated in accordance to their own individual needs.
5% of women suffer from alopecia but this can be reversed with SMP treatment, restoring hair loss, regardless of hair length.
Who is SMP for?
Unlike a large amount of non-surgical hair treatments, skin and hair colour does not have any effect on the result, meaning Afro-Caribbean, Asian, Mixed-Race, Latino and White skin are well suited to SMP, regardless of how light or dark the hair might be.
Even though the most popular treatment is for men with short hair, the versatility of SMP means all hair lengths can be treated and all solutions are available for both men and women.
For those who may have had previous hair transplants, SMP is still a viable option. It is worth noting that the practitioner will need to be informed in advance to ensure the client’s individual needs are catered for.
Trichologists recognise SMP as a gentle solution to hair loss and consider it to be the safest option due to its specialised method and use of natural pigments.
SMP Procedure
We recommend booking a consultation with a scalp micropigmentation treatment expert and they will be able to answer any questions regarding the procedure. Their aim is to educate and assure, providing all the necessary information and allowing the client to make a final decision.
Once you have arranged your times and dates, the client will be ready to undergo the SMP treatment. They will meet their practitioner who will discuss the procedure and ease any nerves they may have.
The client will discuss with the practitioner their desired hairline and they will design several potential ideas until they come up with the right choice. The hairline will lower with each session to allow the client to adjust.
The practitioner will then analyse both follicle colour and skin tone to choose the right pigment. The first session, the pigment will be several shades lighter so it can be matched in the next session. The treatment is a gradual procedure and the client will not see results at the end of the first session.
The second session occurs about a week later. This involves a further lowering of the hairline and a darkening of the pigmentation. The primary focus of this session is to provide both a full and natural look through double density.
About a month later is the third, and in most cases, the final session. This perfects the scalp micropigmentation and attends to any faded pigments.
The client will need to return every 3-4 years for touch ups as the micropigmentation is affected by sunlight.
Benefits of SMP
It is an affordable service and only a fraction of the price when compared to most hair transplants.
The treatment does not use any chemicals, therefore eliminating the possibility of any side effects, plus the practitioner will use a local anaesthetic to keep the procedure painless.
The procedure is fast, usually consisting of three, three-hour sessions, with realistic results. In addition to this, the healing time is quick, with no bandages or dressings and most people are back to work within two days.
The matching of the pigments will provide a natural look giving you the most realistic appearance possible.
It is a long-lasting procedure and the pigmentation is designed to never fall out and can be updated to match with changing hairstyles.
For those who may have had previous hair transplants, SMP will cover any old scars by creating a camouflage.
Most importantly, confidence will be restored, and you can live your life safe in the knowledge that you never have to worry about hair loss again.
