SMP Nationwide - Scalp Micro Pigmentation Company in Altrincham
To quote Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag, “hair is everything,” a statement particularly poignant if you are someone losing theirs or don’t have any at all. Hair loss in both men and women is becoming more and more common and can be particularly distressing affecting one’s self confidence, mood, mental health among many other areas of day to day life.
There are a lot of treatments out there to help with hair loss but for many people they are put off due to those treatments being invasive, excruciatingly painful, costly, temporary or with results that just look plain awful.
But those treatments aren’t Scalp Micro Pigmentation
Here at SMP Nationwide, we too believe that hair is everything along with bringing back your confidence and making you feel comfortable in your own skin again. Wrongly coined as ‘just a hair tattoo,’ Scalp Micro Pigmentation does so much more and is quickly becoming the premier treatment to combat concerns associated with hair loss.
What is Scalp Micro Pigmentation from SMP Altrincham?
Scalp Micro Pigmentation from SMP Altrincham is a life changing, non-surgical and non-invasive treatment for hair loss whereby natural pigment is applied to the skin using tiny microfine needles to replicate the natural hair follicle, giving the illusion of growing hair.
For some, Scalp Micro Pigmentation or hair tattoo gives the appearance of a recently shaved head, for others it adds density to thinning hair making it appear thicker, while others look to Scalp Micro Pigmentation to restore hairlines or camouflage scars and birthmarks - the uses and possibilities of this innovative treatment are truly endless with the results speaking for themselves.
No official origin of Scalp Micro Pigmentation or SMP Hair Tattoo has been determined; this is because many professional tattooists have been championing the process for decades using it to camouflage all sorts of skin irregularities on their clients bodies. The results achieved look completely natural with so many pigments available to match all hair and skin colourings, it was inevitable that the process start being applied on the scalp too.
Plus the effects last for years!
How does it work?
Not to be confused with Micro-blading (another tattoo like treatment applied to sparse eyebrows which emulate individual strands of hair using a blade), Scalp Micro Pigmentation uses a device similar to that of a tattoo needle to make small marks on the epidermis to reproduce the appearance of hair growing from the follicles.
The action is similar to the artistic technique of pointillism whereby a scene in a painting is created by layering different coloured dots of paint. Scalp Micro Pigmentation works in a similar fashion, we create the look of a hair follicle by building up these micro fine dots of pigment.
Over the course of a few treatments, the pigment is layered so it complements your skin and matches your natural hair colour, camouflaging and blending any bald patches or uneven hairlines.

On the day of your treatment make sure you wash the treatment area as you will not be able to get it wet for 4 days post treatment. Your practitioner will still thoroughly cleanse the treatment area before applying a numbing agent to ease any discomfort felt during the procedure, ensuring you are as comfortable as possible as treatments can take up to 5 hours to complete.
After Your Treatment with Hair Tattoo Altrincham
For the following 4 days post treatment, you cannot shower, use saunas or go swimming this is because the area needs time to heal. If the area gets wet it will interfere with the healing process and will ultimately affect the pigment.
Once 4 days have passed you can gently rinse the area but a proper shower using shampoo should be avoided until a week post treatment. After a week other activities like exercise, swimming etc can be resumed. There will be small scabs in the treatment area which you must avoid picking, doing so could result in scarring.
Treatments are scheduled within a few weeks of each other so the area can heal prior to more pigment being layered on top. The amount of treatments needed vary from person to person but, on average, patients require 3-5 sessions to achieve their desired results. Once the course of treatments is finished, patients can expect the pigment to last for up to 8 years without the need for further treatments.
