Scalp Micropigmentation and How it can Help You
What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
What is Scalp Micropigmentation? SMP is the safe, non-surgical solution to concealing various forms of baldness. This affordable, long-term method of camouflaging receding hairlines has been going for nearly fifteen years with consistently positive results.
SMP is the process of injecting natural pigment into the scalp to create the realistic appearance of natural hair follicles. In a similar process to microblading for eyebrows, SMP instead injects pigment with an electrical tattoo machine in a style known as pointillism, till the balding is undetectable to the naked eye.
SMP is an effective solution to many types of balding and, whilst the process differs slightly for each, the successful results all speak for themselves. If you want long-term increased confidence through natural hairlines, consider SMP today.
Hair Loss Issues
SMP can help conceal the effects of a variety of hair loss issues, including: Hair Transplant Scarring, Alopecia, Receding Hairlines, Hair Thinning and Pattern Baldness for Men and Women. The number of treatment sessions for SMP differs depending on the extent of the hair loss.
For scarring due to hair transplants, SMP can camouflage the scars over the course of multiple treatments. If the scarring due to hair transplants does not heal properly and instead stretches, this can lead to larger, noticeable patches of baldness. The effects of the treatments create the appearance of hair follicles throughout the scars, making them less visible. An instantaneous result leaving you more confident about your hair than before.
Alopecia can take several forms, such as Alopecia Areata and Alopecia Universalis. An autoimmune condition causing the body to target its hair follicles, Alopecia causes extreme hair loss across the scalp. With the latter form, Alopecia Universalis, it will likely take more sessions to treat the baldness; nonetheless the results will restore your self-esteem. With Alopecia Areata, also known as spot balding, many forms of hair transplant are less effective against the balding areas. SMP, however, is the perfect alternative to conceal and deal with the affected areas. Lupus, another autoimmune disease that both affects the scalp and hair loss, targets healthy tissue, such as the scalp, through an overreactive immune system. Through the scarring resulted from discoid lesions, permanent hair loss is a very real possibility for those suffering with lupus. To instead tackle and hide the scarring, SMP is the best solution, giving a second chance to anyone suffering with these conditions.
For those suffering with receding hairlines or thinning hair, SMP can work wonders to take a few years off. The natural looking outcomes of SMP make it near impossible to see the difference between where the SMP hairline ends and the real hair begins. Due to overbleaching hair, using hair straighteners or even stress, hair thinning gradually affects many people as they get older. With thinner hair and a more visible scalp, SMP is a quick and easy fix to both hide the scalp and doing so, allow the hair to appear thicker for longer. Over more treatment sessions, the tone of the pigment can be intensified to create a stronger appearance of thicker hair.
Pattern Baldness affects most men and is well known, but it also commonly affects women. Up to 40% of women will experience hair loss of some form by the age of 40, yet only 12% will seek to fix it in comparison to 20% of men. There is a stigma for women surrounding pattern baldness and with SMP, anyone can easily and subtly fight back against their baldness. With a handful of treatment sessions, there will be no reason to feel embarrassed about hair loss as nobody will be able to tell.
The Process
The process of SMP is both affordable and easy to follow. As described earlier, through the use of an electric tattoo device, natural pigment is injected into various layers of the scalp tissue to give the appearance of hair follicles. Similar to a tattoo, the visual effect of SMP is long lasting, with fading beginning around eight years after the treatment due to natural exfoliation. Whilst not actually a tattoo, SMP is very similar; administered with a thicker needle and goes far deeper into the skin.
How many sessions you will have depends on how large an area you are having treated and each session will take approximately four to five hours. Through a consultation before the SMP treatments, you will discuss and work out how many sessions will be required.
It is important to note that between the sessions you should avoid swimming, saunas and overly hot showers that might cause an abundance of steam. For four days following a treatment session you will not be able to wash or wet your scalp, including sweating, and you should avoid exposing your scalp to the sun. Only expose your scalp to the sun for a maximum of one hour on the fifth day following a treatment. A longer pigment retention relies on a lack of sun exposure. After the final treatment, avoid swimming, saunas and steamy showers for 28 days and also avoid exposure to the sun for 28 days. These precautions are simply to keep you comfortable, safe and make sure the SMP treatments run as smoothly as possible.

Some of the benefits of this treatment range from increased confidence and self-esteem to younger looking, realistic and natural hairlines.
